About Cancer Fun Run 2024
This is the first Fun Run jointly organised by the Malaysian Association for Cancer Research (MACR) and Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) as a call to the public to join the long-standing fight against cancer, alongside researchers striving to make discoveries that advance cancer care.
World Cancer Day (4 February)
World Cancer Day is the one singular initiative under which the entire world can unite together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic. It takes place every year on 4 February.
The theme for World Cancer Day 2022-2024 is Close the Care Gap. Every single person has the ability to make a difference, large or small, but together the health community can make real progress in reducing the global impact of cancer.

Tumors Change Nearby Immune Cells to Promote Tumor Growth
Now, researchers have used single-cell RNA-seq to characterize the immune composition of an undifferentiated pleiomorphic sarcoma mouse model. They discovered that soft-tissue sarcomas produce a protein that switches immune cells from tumor-attacking to tumor-promoting. The study could lead to improved treatments for soft-tissue sarcomas. Greetings!
We would like to extend our warmest invitation to you to participate in our third International Conference on Drug Discovery and Translational Medicine (ICDDTM’23), scheduled for 5th – 6th December 2023. With the conference theme “Scientific Discoveries: Impacting Healthcare and Driving Economic Growth”, ICDDTM’23 is geared to examine the symbiotic relationship between science and economy; and bring to the fore the crucial role of scientific innovations in advancing a nation’s economy.
On 4th and 8th of December 2023, we will also be hosting pre- and post-conference workshops. The in-person conference will feature plenary and invited talks, and oral and poster presentations based on the following research areas:
• Cancer
• Infectious Diseases
• Inflammatory and Metabolic Diseases
• Mental Health / Neurodegeneration
• Miscellaneous (Cardiovascular / Drug Design / Delivery / Pharmacoeconomics)

MSC aims to provide a major convening platform for cancer research communities based locally and abroad. This two-day physical conference is expected to open up avenues for meaningful collaboration at the regional and global levels to promote cancer drug discovery and development through integrative research. The various topics that will be covered by this conference include but are not limited to:
- Novel cancer drug target identification;
- New cancer drug discoveries
- Translational cancer medicine;
- Clinical trials of new cancer drugs
- Diagnostic and prognostic values of new cancer markers
- Cancer prevention

International Conference of Drug Discovery and Translational Medicine 2021 (ICDDTM’21)
Building upon the success of the inaugural International Conference of Drug Discovery and Translational Medicine (ICDDTM’18), which had attracted delegates from local and abroad, MACR and its collaborators will once again join hands in organising the 2nd ICDDTM’21 from 7th – 9th December 2021.
The conference will feature its plenary and invited talks based on four major areas:
- Cancer
- Microbiome therapy
- Mental health/neurodegeneration
- Stem cell therapy
- and one special topic on COVID-19.
A total of 6 conference tracks have been identified for oral and poster presentations:

Essay Competition by MACR
Malaysian Association for Cancer Research is organising an essay competition on: “How to Propel Cancer Research in Malaysia to a Greater Level?”. This competition is open to general public, secondary schools, post-secondary schools, higher learning institutional students and faculty members. The winning essays will be published on MACR website and facebook page. Winners will be awarded a certificate as well as cash prizes.
The final deadline for submission is extended until 14th May 2021.
